I have made some really great progress over the past couple weeks with my novel. I am currently working on the plot and mapping things out so that it can become a coherent novel. I am quickly learning how vastly different writing fiction is than writing a memoir!
I had initially thought that things would go really smoothly and things would come together really quickly just like it has in my head. I wrote the prologue, and quickly realized that things would not come together as I had hoped, It was at that point that I gave this book a special little notebook for everything related to it.
It includes a breakdown of all plot lines, as well as additional ideas I would like to add to the novel. I have also started writing out specific inciting events within the book in point form. I feel like this will allow me to write the event within the book with all of the required details. Most importantly, this little notebook keeps everything in a single place for quick reference. This is something I need, because once I have done something and moved on, even temporarily, I lose track of what I have done. I figure this way, I can always look back to the same place and remember what I intended to do with a specific part of the book.
I have come up with one such event so far, and I think it’s gonna go quite well with the plot. The next part I need to think about, is the end of the book. The climax, I suppose. I have asked a friend to help me with the task of planning out this last bit because she has similar thoughts on the topic (not to be shared here) and I think bouncing ideas off of her will be just the ticket. I am hopeful that this conversation will happen very soon. We are both very busy people, and I want to have this conversation in-person, so it might take a bit of time before both of our schedules meet up.
I am really excited about everything I’ve discussed today, but it has been a bit of a hard pill to swallow that it will take so much longer than I originally expected. But it’s fine. I will make this happen, and I can’t wait to share more throughout the process.
