A few weeks ago, I invested in an iPad and Apple Pencil. And it was an investment. I won’t be entertaining buying a toy this expensive again for a very long time.
I had a few reasons for doing this. First, I wanted to try my hand at digital art and iPad and Procreate seemed like the most common and logical way to accomplish this. I knew there would be a learning curve, but I figured I have taught myself many things, so why not this too?! I hoped it would help to jump start the creative juices again, as they had been waning for quite a while and I missed it. I would be able to draw, paint and even animate eventually if I wanted to. It also had the potential to be an easy way to art on the go…lots less to carry!
It all made sense to me and I was okay with the price tag, so I went ahead and dropped the cash in mid-June. I went to pick it up in-person at the Apple Store.
It has definitely been the learning curve I expected, but I have been having a lot of fun! I have followed a few Procreate tutorials that I found on YouTube, but I have been doing my own thing mostly. I have tried a bunch of different things. I have drawn silly doodles, I have drawn a few animals, and I have been practicing drawing bodies and body parts too. I have found so far that sketching is my cup of tea, at least for right now. I plan to keep learning new things and trying them out as I go.
After owning my iPad for a couple weeks, and attempting to use my laptop, I started wondering at the idea of getting a keyboard for it. My laptop is starting to slow down, and has been having increasing difficulty with being able to keep up with typing which has been very frustrating. I guess it’s the price paid for aging technology. So, I did my research and decided which direction I wanted to go, and this past Friday, I invested in a keyboard for my iPad.
So, now I have a fully decked out iPad and have been busy. This is the second post I have composed for my newsletter, and I have been having a great time. While the price tag for the keyboard was a bit steeper than I would have liked, I have no regrets. This was an excellent addition to my investment.
Now that I am kitted out with all the accessories I could think of needed, I really do feel like I have so much at my fingertips. I love that I can close up my keyboard and voila! I am ready to be on the go as my pencil attaches to the iPad itself. And the keyboard doubles as a case! It can’t get much more convenient than that. (Listen to me raving, when so many of you probably already have all this stuff!) I feel like my creativity has been given a fresh start, and I love that I can take it anywhere I go without getting in the way too much. It is small enough to fit in my small backpack I take everywhere and that is a major convenience factor that I truly enjoy.
This keyboard will take some getting used to though, as it is much narrower than both on my laptop and my keyboard for work. But that’s okay, the more I use it the easier it gets and I am sure soon I will even prefer it.
Maybe a little bit of my enthusiasm has rubbed off on you and inspires you to get your creative juices flowing too.
