On Writing Progress and Art Things
It has been quite some time but I am finally feeling inspired to pick up my book again. I plan to rework the outline and do some major revisions to what I have written so far. I was feeling quite stuck when I put it down, fully aware that the quality of the writing was just poor and needed to be improved upon drastically. The outline also wasn’t fleshed out enough and I just know that I can write better quality material.
I stopped writing because I was fully aware that the writing was bad. I made repetitive use of a lot of words and phrases - to the point where they just annoy me now, and I overused some story mechanics as well. I discouraged myself completely and just simply stopped. I threw in the towel, not sure if I would ever pick it up again.
In the time since I stopped writing, I have made a number of changes to how I do things. I completely revamped my setup, and feel much better about my productivity potential, and I have also harnessed the cloud and am using Google Docs so I can work on it any time, anywhere.
Now, what got me going on this project again? Reading the first two books of a really enjoyable series. It helped me realize that I could do so much better. It felt like something that was in my wheelhouse to write as far as quality goes, and I no longer felt intimidated picking it up my own story again. I’ve been working on fleshing out my original ideas and turning it into a much better story that I originally imagined.
I’m starting from the beginning though, and have spent some time building the world and the characters to a much further extent that I did originally. Next the outline will become much more detailed, and I will build myself a roadmap to reference while writing that will grow with me and the story.
It feels good to be on the wagon again and I can’t wait to see what happens this time around. I am looking forward to writing more as I progress through the process. It feels good to have the creative juices flowing again.
I mentioned back in July that I bought my iPad and Apple Pencil and was excited to create some art. I have completed a few pieces that I am really proud of since then.
I made some poster prints of this one:
And I love it so much. I think my favourite part is all of the different colours I used. I had 2 prints made of this one and gave them as gifts to two people I care deeply about.
The next one is a digital painting of a sunset photograph I took when I was on vacation in British Columbia. I am really proud of it as it is my first (successful) digital painting.
I think I might be even more proud of this one than the first. I recently had 2 prints done up of this one as well. I had them done as giclee prints, and I just picked them up today. They are absolutely stunning. One is going to my mom as a Christmas gift. She was on this vacation with me, and this captures a really special moment. The second is going to my friend Jess, who was there also.
I honestly can’t wait to create some more art. I love it almost as much as I love writing again.
